Meet Yoko: Owner, Designer, and Decorator of Celsius Ceramics

For 23 years I worked as a designer at Morris & James Pottery Matakana. Today, I create small ceramic jewellery pieces from my own studio — pendants, earrings, and wearable keepsakes made by hand, one at a time.

My work sits between two worlds: the quiet honesty of Japanese Wabi-Sabi (where a piece doesn’t need to be perfect to be beautiful), and the textures and colours of Aotearoa — bush, coastlines, birds, and the small details you notice when you slow down.

What I Care About

I care about honest making: handmade ceramics in small batches, free from mass production. Each piece is slightly different, and those small variations are part of what gives it character. Above all, I want every piece to feel personal—something you keep, not something you replace.

Why “Celsius Ceramics”?

Celsius is about heat and transformation — clay becoming something lasting. It’s a simple name for something I still find a little bit magic.

If something here catches your eye, I’d love you to make it yours.
