HI, I’m Yoko — artist and maker behind Celsius Ceramics.

From Kyoto to Warkworth, my journey has been one of colour, craft, and clay. Each piece I create is shaped by hand and heart — inspired by the spirit of Morris & James Pottery and the landscapes of New Zealand / Aotearoa.

I began my creative life in Kyoto, Japan, as a fashion designer, drawn to pattern, texture, and balance.

After moving to New Zealand in the late 1990s, I joined Morris & James Matakana as a decorator and, over time, became one of their main designers. Those years taught me the beauty of colour, glaze, and the rhythm of handmade work.

Now, with the closure of Morris & James, I’ve decided to continue that creative journey through Celsius Ceramics — a space where I can explore new forms and colours while honouring the spirit of craftsmanship that inspired me.

Each piece is made with care, celebrating the harmony between earth, fire, and imagination.
